Description

Interlochen Center for the Arts is looking to hire an Equipment Manager for the 2019 season of Interlochen Arts Camp. The dates of the contract are 6/13/19-8/5/19.   The stipend for this position is $1,800. All meals and housing is included in in a rustic cabin setting, typically shared with other camp life, recreation and waterfront staff.  The Equipment Manager reports to the Director of Recreation Programs and serves as the liaison between the Recreation Department and the Camp Divisions as related to recreation equipment and facilities. S/he also assists with the overall recreation and waterfront programs.

The Equipment Manager reports to the Director of Recreation and serves as an organizational resource to all Camp Life.  This position will be in charge of supporting divisional and recreational class equipment needs. Organization in checking out and having all equipment returned in a timely fashion. Maintaining equipment and ensuring equipment is in good working order throughout camp.  

Additionally, keeping the workspace clean and organized is a must along with divisional walkthroughs to ascertain the level of divisional equipment throughout the summer.

This position will also aid staff as needed to support recreation electives and regular cabin night activities.  

POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Physically able to assist with preparation, hauling of equipment, cleaning and maintenance of camp equipment

  • Strong leadership skills

  • Manage emotions appropriately and professionally in high-stress situations

  • Recreation and waterfront staff must have the ability to effectively engage in appropriate communication (verbal and non-verbal) with students and other staff.

  • Daily duties will be both inside and outside regardless of weather

  • Ability to function effectively and work cooperatively with peers

  • Commitment to self-care (adequate sleep, physical exercise, nutrition, mental acuity)

  • Self-advocacy skills to seek assistance from others when facing difficulty

  • Manage multiple commitments and responsibilities to ensure deadlines are met

  • Outdoor Education or lifeguarding background a plus

  • May be required to drive an Interlochen vehicle and so must be eligible through Interlochen’s process
