Interlochen Center for the Arts is looking to hire a High School Creative Writing Novel Writing Institute Instructor. The dates of the contract are 6/15/19-6/20/19. Faculty have a choice of on-campus or off-campus housing. Housing and meals are included in the agreement. On-campus housing is subject to availability. (early arrival/late stay requests, if available, will be paid in full by the employee).
- The instructor will assess the strengths and weaknesses of each student’s skill set and work with the student to establish a plan to complete his/her novel project
- Leads conversation on craft-based issues specific to the novel form, including character development, plot, scene, and structure
- Differentiation of instruction based on the style and genre of the novel, as well as the level of skill displayed by the student
- The instructor will assign exercises, readings, and change the order of daily events within the larger structure of the day if it is judged that the students need more time on a certain task.
- MFA in Creative Writing preferred
- Publication of at least one novel with a reputable press (not self-published)
- Teaching experience with high school students is preferred
The Camp enrolls nearly 2500 students, of which 8% are international, and over 25% are racial/ethnic minorities.
