Description

Interlochen Center for the Arts is looking to hire a full-time Painter to work in the summer.  The position will work up to 40 hours a week May 6, 2019-August 30, 2019. This position will perform painting services and related activities e.g. (preparation, wallpaper, stripping, graffiti removal, etc.); in a team & individual settings while maintaining painting and related services within established guidelines for producing quality results. Compensation is an hourly rate and when Dining Services is open, a meal is provided during a shift. ​Housing is not available for this position.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Performs all planned & requested repairs & restorations of Campus buildings & facilities.
  • Team & Individual efforts involving interior & exterior surface finishing using typical stains, paints, sealants & coatings. 
  • Maintain licenses & certifications required to perform duties associated with the position.
  • Responds to typical & emergency work order requests.
  • Notifies foreman when inventory supply levels required to provide efficient response to work requests.
  • Will need to prioritize assignments to further optimal use of resources & space availability.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.  The employee is frequently required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear.
  • Position may include operating motorized vehicles and equipment including dump truck, pickup truck, utility truck, backhoe, tractors, electric motors, motorized lifts, ladders, common hand & power tools, tools associated with coatings applications, strippers, shovels, wrenches, radio & phone
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to occasionally loud.  Personal Protection Equipment use is expected & provided for such instances.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public; ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Working knowledge of light and some heavy equipment operation principles, practices and procedures; working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to the position; working knowledge of minor equipment maintenance and repair functions.
  • High School diploma or general education degree(GED) is preferred.
  • Valid driver's license to drive Interlochen vehicles.
  • Experience in building or construction fields dealing with maintaining & repairing damaged wall coverings & new builds.
  • Skill utilizing hand & power tools to perform assigned tasks.
  • This position involves frequent lifting of 35-50 pounds with occasional lifting of up to 75-100 or more. This is often combined with bending, twisting, or working on irregular surfaces or at heights above the ground.
