Interlochen Arts Academy seeks an Academic and College Counselor. This person will advise and assist students and families on issues related to curriculum, standardized testing and the college application process. Counselors also provide academic support to ensure students are utilizing available resources.
Primary responsibilities include:
Education and Qualifications:
- Oversight and assistance with the college application process
- Monitoring each student’s academic/artistic progress
- Educating and communicating with students, parents, faculty, staff, and educators on the college admissions process.
- Meeting with students to map out a plan for academic course selection and registration, summer plans and college admissions
- Working with students in a group environment
- Writing letters of recommendation and advocate on behalf of students
- Assisting with course scheduling
- Bachelor’s degree required, though a Master’s in Counseling, Psychology, or another related field is preferred
- Experience in academic/college counseling at the high school level or college admissions is strongly preferred
- Technological proficiency (MS Office, Google Drive, Docs, and Spreadsheets)
The Academy enrolls over 500 students, of which approximately 20% are international, and nearly 25% are ethnic minorities.
