Description
Interlochen Center for the Arts seeks energetic, dedicated and creative individuals with a desire to supervise and mentor high school students. Interlochen Arts Academy, the nation’s premier fine arts boarding high school, has openings available for Residence Hall Coordinator/Teaching Assistants to serve as part of a team of student life professionals during the next academic school year, August through May. The Residence Hall Coordinator position is a 9-month position that is responsible for the community building and care of students in a designated area of our Residence Halls. They are responsible for developing educational programming, advising and mediating student concerns, enforcing policy, creating safe communities, advising student groups, and developing other special projects. In the capacity of a teaching assistant, these individuals will serve in an assistant faculty capacity within an arts or academic area, or serve as an advisor in the academic and/or college counseling department. Major job responsibilities would include the following: 
  • Provide care and a variety of direct support services to students in a residential setting and assist with the oversight of the residential education program.
  • Implement educational and social programs that develop social and emotional skills, student leadership, intrapersonal and interpersonal skills, and are developmentally appropriate.
  • Serve as a teaching assistant in and academic or artistic classroom setting, or as an advisor for academic and/or college counseling or another area of need on campus
  • Facilitate the development of communities that are welcoming and accepting of people of all race and ethnicities, abilities, ages, genders, national origins, religions, and sexual orientations.
  • Support leadership development for students in a variety of areas including academics, student groups, student representative board, programming and international student liaisons, and health and wellness.
  • Build relationships with a variety of campus partners in an effort to strengthen student supports tailored to their students’ needs.
  • Maintain detailed administrative records related to the care of students.
  • Assess and mediate student conflict and listen to and summarize individual and group concerns.
  • Interpret and enforce policies and procedures that relate to student conduct concerns.
  • Engage students in programming and conversations about diversity and social justice and confront situations of bias as necessary.

Due to the nature of the work, and the combined work/living environment, this position must have a commitment to self-care including getting adequate sleep, physical exercise, nutrition, and the ability to seek assistance from others when facing difficulty.


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor Degree required. 
  • Master degree preferred, especially if the position is responsible for teaching.
  • Ability to maintain a valid driver’s license and be insured to drive ICA vehicles is required.
  • Experience mentoring or guiding young people is preferred.
